Motion Photos: Option to not autoplay on open

Current behavior:
When browsing photos, if some happen to be Motion Photos, the app (or web app) forces the motion part to play in full before displaying the actual still photo. This creates an unnecessary delay when simply trying to view the image.

Proposed solution:
Add a setting to choose how Motion Photos behave when opened:

  1. Autoplay – plays the motion part automatically (current default behavior)

  2. Still only – displays the still photo immediately without playing the animation

  3. Tap to play – shows the still photo and lets the user tap to trigger the motion

This is now live in the web-app and in mobile apps starting from version 1.31.

May I also add, this setting is useful as a general account detault, but ALSO on a per album basis.

Example I might choose option 3 for my general account (no play, but I reserve the option), but on a public shared album I choose option 2, because I don’t want background audio to betray something. Live videos in a public album are a security risk.

      Hi Michael,

good point. Can you create a separate issue for that case or add it to the “strip metadata” issue as a comment?

This is somewhat of a different issue since it involves access control rather than just playback behavior.
